Ground Navigation in 3D Scenes using Simple Body Motions

چکیده
With the growing interest in virtual reality, mid-air ground navigation is becoming a fundamental interaction for a large collection of application scenarios. While classical input devices (e.g., mouse/keyboard, gamepad, touchscreen) have their own ground navigation standards, mid-air techniques still lack natural mechanisms for travelling in the scene. In particular, for most applications, the user should navigate in the scene while still being able to interact with its content using her hands, and observe the displayed content moving her eyes and locally rotating her head. Since most ground navigation scenarios require only two degrees of freedom to move forward/backward and rotate the view to the left or right, we propose a mid-air ground navigation control model which lets the user’s hands, eyes or local head orientation completely free, making use of the remaining tracked body elements to tailor the navigation. We also study its desired porperties, such as being easy to discover, control, socially acceptable, accurate and not tiring.

In this project, we propose to develop a prototype system that can automatically reconstruct 3D scenes of the interior of a building, cave or other structure using ground-based LIDAR scanning technology. We develop a user-friendly real-time visualization software package that will allow the users to interactively visualize, navigate and walk through the room from different view angles, zoom in ...
متن کاملInvestigation of seismic damage index due to water level changes in reservoir through nonlinear dynamic analysis under Far-Fault and Near-Fault ground motions
In this study, reservoir water level effects on nonlinear dynamic response of concrete gravity dams are investigated. For this purpose, the nonlinear behavior of the dam concrete is captured using the concrete damage plasticity (CDP) on the non associated flow rule assumption. Water in the reservoir is represented by the Lagrangian (displacement-based) fluid finite elements. The program ABAQUS ...
متن کاملApproximate Incremental Dynamic Analysis Using Reduction of Ground Motion Records
Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) requires the analysis of the non-linear response history of a structure for an ensemble of ground motions, each scaled to multiple levels of intensity and selected to cover the entire range of structural response. Recognizing that IDA of practical structures is computationally demanding, an approximate procedure based on the reduction of the number of ground m...
متن کاملAligning Across Large Gaps in Time
We present a method of temporally-invariant image registration for outdoor scenes, with invariance across time of day, across seasonal variations, and across decade-long periods, for lowand hightexture scenes. Our method can be useful for applications in remote sensing, GPS-denied UAV localization, 3D reconstruction, and many others. Our method leverages a recently proposed approach to image re...
